ABOUT
Recently, I've been inspired by Torah Scrolls. The way we treasure them, decorate them, and that close-to-God relationship they signify. Sometimes, religion gets clouded by the social aspects of it...things that ppl decide, man-made "law" and the norms that unfold over time. The beauty becomes blurred. The bright spiritual light is dimmed. Our affiliation doesn't seem so life-giving it turns energy-sapping instead. Every once in a while the ethereal glow descends and shines so purely, like visible souls. The connection blooms and leaves us feeling as it should- without it, we would die. A few weeks ago I got to be a part of a hochnosat Sefer Torah- the welcoming of a Torah scroll to its new home. Men, of all walks of Judaism, gathered joyously singing and dancing, the air filled with thunderous celebratory sound. I watched as the Torah emerged, carried with reverence and love, its golden tassels swinging. Tears pooled in my eyes. I cried. The beauty that exists always had suddenly revealed itself to me.
